Band 3 Health Care Assistant – Community Swabbers in Warrington

GP World have a fantastic new opportunity for Band 3 Health Care Assistant (Community Swabbers) in Warrington

Hours:  This is negotiable

Start Date: - As soon as possible

End date – 3-month Contract with view to extend

 Required – Full UK driving licence with own car -

Job Purpose:

  • To provide a Community swabbing service.

  • This will support rapid response, across the health economy

Job summary:

The post holder will provide testing for Covid-19 for those that present with symptoms and/or to provide testing for those who may be asymptomatic, following a clinical ‘positive’ contact, provide testing for those requiring a placement in a care home setting or who may require surgery/treatments. Also to provide testing for those key workers who cannot access alternative options to attend a testing centre.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Then post holder will respond to urgent referrals from the multidisciplinary team, Social Workers or other providers in the community.

  • The post holder will book in referrals and prepare swabbing kits and laboratory forms.

  • The post holder will work autonomously across the health economy to provide a swabbing service to vulnerable groups in the home or in a care setting as required.

  • The post holder will ensure that the correct PPE and equipment is utilised ensuring own personal safety and that of the service user.

  • The post holder will test for Covid-19 in relation to those presenting with symptoms and/or those who are asymptomatic. This includes individuals who may be waiting for care home settings or treatment where a negative result is required prior to this.

  • The post holder will provide advice and guidance and sign post to those who may require a Covid-19 test but do not meet the criteria for a home testing.

  • The post holder will safely transport samples to the agreed pathology laboratory and follow the IPC guidance on the safe transportation of contaminated samples.

  • The post holder will utilise local and national guidance for the infection prevention and control agenda

  • The post holder will work under the direct supervision of the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses.

  • The post holder will develop their skills to assist in the normal infection prevention and control activities.

  • The post holder will respond to issues raised with appropriate individuals and groups and implement any changes required to infection control practice with guidance and support from senior IPC nurses.

  • To assist in clinical audit of health care premises as and when required with support and training from the IPC Nurse.

  • Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate. 

  • The post holder will have a working knowledge and compliance with Practice Policies and Procedures.

  • The post holder will keep own stock of equipment and replenish as and when required.

  • The post holder will input information into the clinical system.
