GP World have a fantastic new opportunity for Band 5 Theatre Practitioner in County Durham

Hours:  This is negotiable

Start Date: - As soon as possible

End date – 3-month Contract with view to extend

Job purpose/summary


  • To provide patient care within the perioperative environment and act as a skilled member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To assess care needs, develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care, carrying out all relevant forms of peri-operative patient care without direct supervision over a 24 hour period, caring for both adult and paediatric patients undergoing routine and emergency surgery.
  • The post carries a regular commitment to rotational night duty and out-of-hours work.

  • To provide perioperative care within the theatre environment, across the range of specialities offered by the Trust.

  • The care to be delivered in line with both local and national policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Registered Nurse /Operating Departmental Practitioner

Main duties and responsibilities

Clinical duties

  • Participate in the monitoring of standards of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

  • Participate in direct care needs of patients, providing expert knowledge of all clinical specialities and acting as a role model.

  • Participate in audit and monitoring accurate documentation in accordance with trust policy NMC and HPC guidelines.

  • Be competent in facilitating an emergency service covering all specialties provided within the department, during elective and non elective periods

  • Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with Hospital Policy, and NMC and HPC guidelines.

  • Ensure that all procedures and techniques are carried out in accordance with local competencies and agreed policies and standards.

  • Ensure rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times, therefore up holding Patient’s Charter Standards (NHS).

  • Act as patients advocate in all matters relating to his/her care, treatment and welfare.

  • Checking on departmental cleanliness and where necessary assisting other members of the team in the preparation, clearing and cleaning of the operating suite and equipment before, during and after operating sessions in accordance with local procedure.

  • Be proactive in promoting equality and diversity in a non-discriminatory environment by acting as a role model.

  • Assisting with record keeping in line with NMC and HPC guidelines.
